Wildcats Honored Hillsborough County PTSA Awards

A few Wildcats and head Coach Tommy Tonelli were honored at this year's Hillsborough County PTSA Awards last Friday during a luncheon at Pepin's Hospitality Centre.

Senior Tate Wheeler was honored as the "Senior of the Year" and the Wildcats Basketball team was awarded the Sergeant Percy Safety Award for their efforts in aiding Drake Williams during his unexpected collapse in practice two weeks before the start of the season.

Wheeler Academic Awards Adding Up

The Senior Awards of Excellence Banquet was held Tuesday night and Wildcat Tate was nominated by the faculty and awarded "Senior of the Year" and $500. The award is based of off overall school involvement, academics, leadership and athletics.
 
Tate also received the "Scholastic Excellence Award" from the United States Marine Corps for academic achievement and leadership as a high school scholar.

Congratulations goes out to Tate for these tremendous academic accomplishments.

Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler better start reinforcing the living room mantle because Tate's academic awards keep piling in.

Tommy Tonelli Wildcats Basketball Camp Dates

Coach Tommy Tonelli will be holding his 13th annual Wildcats Basketball Camp this summer.

There will be three different sessions:

Session 1: June 21-24
Session 2: June 28 - July 1
Session 3: July 12-15
 
The camp is open to children entering the second to the eigth grade and provides hands on skill building and fun for all of those involved.

Wharton Wildcat's head coach Tommy Tonelli is celebrating his 46th birthday today!

Coach Tonelli's record can speak for itself but his dedication to his program and his players is second to none. Freshman enter his program as children and when they graduate as seniors they leave as young men. His ability to draw up a game winning play and his devotion to groom his players to be great members of society make Tonelli the only coach a parent would trust their child with both on and off the court.

McGill, AAU Team Capture State

Freshman CJ McGill and his AAU team Florida Elite defeated Nike Team Florida for the AAU 15U Division 1 State Championship this past weekend in Lakeland, Fla.

Florida Elite edged Nike Team Florida 2013 in the championship game.

McGill starts at point guard for the Florida Elite squad which consists of the top 15-year-olds all throughout the state of Florida.

Congratulations to CJ and his team for their accomplishment. Good luck at the national tournament later this summer.

Injury Update: AJ Astroth

Wharton starting guard AJ Astroth suffered a knee injury two weeks ago during an AAU game. TBC.net caught up with AJ via text message to see how the healing process was going.

AJ Astroth: "I got an MRI today...I got a strained MCL so I'll be out 6 weeks from playing."
